Termite Swarmers vs Flying Ants — Identify in 60 Seconds

Termite Swarmers vs Flying Ants — Identify in 60 Seconds

Three visual differences that decide whether you call pest control today or sweep up and move on.

The 60-second identification

Both swarm after monsoon rains. Both have wings. Both panic Delhi homeowners. But only one means structural damage.

Three differences you can see

1. Waist: Termites have a thick, straight waist. Flying ants have a pinched, narrow waist.

2. Antennae: Termites have straight, bead-like antennae. Ant antennae are bent at an elbow.

3. Wings: A termite's four wings are all the same length and longer than its body. A flying ant's front wings are visibly larger than the back pair.

Why it matters

Misidentification is the #1 reason termite damage goes untreated for 2–3 years in Delhi homes. Homeowners assume the swarm is 'just monsoon ants' and don't act until they find hollow door frames. If you see a swarm indoors — collect 4–5 specimens in a transparent bottle and call for a free inspection before treating.
