Dengue Season in Delhi: Mosquito Control Checklist for Apartments

Why Aedes breeds in 5ml of water and the weekly 60-second sweep every Delhi flat needs.
Why apartments are dengue hotspots
Aedes aegypti — the dengue vector — breeds in as little as 5ml of clean water. AC drip trays, plant saucers, water meter pits and the lip of fridge defrost trays are perfect breeding sites. Apartment societies in Gurugram and South Delhi see dengue clusters every September because no one inspects these.
Weekly 60-second checklist
Empty and dry: balcony plant saucers, mop bucket, pet water bowl, AC outdoor drip tray. Cover: overhead tank lid, sump pit. Treat: any decorative water feature with a temephos larvicide tablet (safe for fish at low dose, available at any agri store).
When fogging actually helps (and when it doesn't)
Society-wide thermal fogging knocks down adult mosquitoes for 24–48 hours. It does NOTHING for breeding sites. The right monsoon protocol is: indoor residual spray on walls below 2m + larvicide in standing water + fogging only as a final adult-population knockdown. Fogging alone is theatre.
