American vs German Cockroach: Why Identification Changes Treatment

One lives in your drains, the other inside your modular kitchen. Treating them the same way fails.
Why species ID changes treatment
Most Delhi cockroach 'failures' are actually misidentifications. The two species need very different treatments — and a German-cockroach protocol applied to an American-cockroach drainage problem will fail every time.
American cockroach (Periplaneta americana)
Large (35–40mm), reddish-brown, fast-flying. Lives in drains, sewers, manholes, basement shafts. Comes UP at night through your floor traps and bathroom drains. Treatment: drain-line foaming with a residual IGR + sealing of bathroom floor traps with mesh inserts. Gel bait barely works on this species because they're not foraging your kitchen surfaces.
German cockroach (Blattella germanica)
Small (12–15mm), tan/light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. Doesn't fly. Lives inside your kitchen — hinge corners, behind microwaves, inside the toaster, under sink. Treatment: gel baiting at 60–80 points, indoor growth regulator (hydroprene) application, no spray. Drain treatment does nothing for this species.
